Driving in Mexico without Mexican insurance is crazy. Your U.S. or Canadian auto insurance will not cover you while driving your car, RV, motorcycle or motorhome in Mexico. Driving in Mexico is the best way to see the country, and good auto, motorcycle or RV insurance will make you feel more comfortable. There are several good Mexican auto and RV insurance companies and a few less than scrupulous ones. How can you tell the difference? I have been around the Mexico auto insurance business for many years. I recommend different Mexican auto insurance companies for different reasons and for different drivers.
Here is one piece of free advice. Never, ever buy your insurance on the other side. Fraudulent policies abound and so-called agents purport to represent good companies, but sell bogus policies. That almost never happens with agents in the USA. Greed knows no national borders.

You won't go to jail for having an automobile accident in Mexico if you have Mexican auto insurance. You will if you don't. I speak from experience on both sides of that centavo.

Some people are screaming that corrupt cops are shaking down tourists. What is going on (in most cases) is that cops got an early Christmas present of radar guns. They are enforcing the speed limits, which are ridiculously low. So go slow or get ticketed.
