San Ysidro’s Land Port of Entry

SAN YSIDRO’S LAND PORT OF ENTRY

The Port of Entry is the world’s busiest land port of entry.  San Ysidro is named for San Ysidro Labrador (Saint Isidore), The Patron Saint of farmers.

As of 2019, more than 17 million vehicles cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry (with more than 45 million pedestrians).

The facility construction was completed in the 1970s and upgraded in 2014 with a $577 million project to expand the lane and facilities. It moves Interface 5 further west, adds a new northbound inspection facility, and adds 1/3 more northbound lanes.

As of January 2020, this 3-phases project is complete. The project successfully gives more capacity to the screeners and more technology to the ICE department. It also allows for a safer and cleaner southbound traffic flow into Mexico. On the northbound side, it is not faster, but it allows for a more secure process and ensures the safety of the agents and officers involved in protecting the United States from foreign terrorists.
