Qualitas Car Claim in Mexico

Getting in a Car Wreck in Mexico

The thing I dreaded most happened: we got in a car wreck in Mexico. Since this was the first time, I was nervous and did not know what to expect. Thankfully it was a very small incident. When I was pulling out of the parking lot, I side-swiped the car parked to my left.

Green Angels and Mexico Mike Nelson

Green Angels

The Green Angels started in 1960 when driving tourists were the kings of tourism. There were no toll roads, and most highways were two-lane.  Gas stations were few. In response to these conditions and to improve the perception of safety

Blockade Ocosingo

Blockades in Mexico

Driving in Mexico is certainly different from driving in the USA. One unexpected condition is blockading. Blockades in Mexico are a common form of protesting and are something to be aware of when driving through Mexico. Unfortunately, blockades as well as other driving conditions in Mexico, are completely unpredictable.  There is no announcement or much knowledge about when or where a blockade will occur. Mexico has a history of political unrest, especially around election time.

Returning Your FMM and TIP at the Mexico Border

GETTING TO COZUMEL

Getting to Cozumel

Taking the ferry to Cozumel from Playa Del Carmen is pretty straightforward. Once you get to the port at Playa Del Carmen, you can choose which company you want to ferry with. While I was there, only one company was running per day. I am not sure if that happens all the time or if it is a new process with Covid. If that is the case, then you just need to buy the ticket for whichever company is running that day. The ferries run from 6:30 am-11 pm and the journey is 1 hour. It is easy to make a day trip to Cozumel from Playa Del Carmen and many people do. Once you get to Cozumel, you are dropped off right downtown or there are plenty of taxis to take you to your first adventure on the island.
