Palacio de Bellas Artes

As the most famous center for the arts in Mexico, the Palacio de Bellas Artes is integral to Mexican culture.  This palace/museum is in Mexico City on the western side of the Centro Histórico. This is one of the best tourist attractions in the city that has no shortage of cultural and historical attractions.  If you plan to be in Mexico City, you must check it out.

Notable Events and Performances

Performances by legends like Luciano Pavarotti and exhibitions of modern artists like Frida Kahlo are here. Additional artistic disciplines include opera, dance, music, ballet, fine art, theatre, and literature.  Various world-renowned companies perform here on a regular basis. The nation’s national symphony and the famous Ballet Folklórico de México Compania Nacional de Opera de Bellas Artes to name a couple.  While many of the performing artists or Mexican, the Palacio de Bellas Artes also hosts artists from all over the world.

Overview of the Palacio de Bellas Artes

Construction of this illustrious building began in 1904 but didn’t inaugurate until 1934. Construction delays as a result of the Mexican Revolution as well as architectural difficulties.  The span of the building’s construction is also something that adds to its appeal. The exterior has Art Nouveau and Neoclassical styles while the interior is largely Art Deco.  The interior is truly worth seeing with its marble surfaces and world-famous murals.

Mexico has many cultural attractions, but this palace holds a special place for the country.  Internationally famous year-round, the Palacio de Bellas Artes often tops best-of lists about Mexico. It is not difficult to understand why given its illustrious history as the primary hub for Mexican arts and artists.
