The Mexican Riviera

The Mexican Riviera

The Mexican Riviera is located on the west side of the nation and generally encompasses the major cruise ship stops and tourist towns on the Pacific Ocean extending from Ensenada to Salina Cruz.  Major vacation destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita, Acapulco, and Mazatlan are some exciting places to visit in the Mexican Riviera.  These cities and their stunning attractions make the Mexican Riviera one of the most spectacular coastal regions in the world.

Ensenada

Regarded as the “Cinderella of the Pacific,” this resort town is a major port on the cruise ship circuit.  Vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and eco-friendly activities (i.e. whale watching, and horseback riding) characterize the Ensenada vacation scene.  Located on the Baja Peninsula, Ensenada is in easy driving distance from the U.S. border.

Acapulco

Situated in the state of Guerrero on a gorgeous stretch of the Pacific coast, Acapulco is one of the country’s oldest resort cities.  World-famous for its fabulous nightlife, Acapulco and its clubs, hotels, and restaurants are some of the most celebrated in all of Mexico.

Cabo San Lucas

Located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is extraordinarily beautiful yet also relaxed.  The perfect retreat, visitors enjoy the scenic beauty of the sea and the desert, and nearby mountain scenery.

Punta Mita

Located in the enchanting state of Nayarit, Punta Mita is a haven for the rich and famous as well as vacationers looking for exclusive accommodations and pristine beaches.  World-class resorts and private villas stud the coast in Punta Mita.  With its postcard-like setting, the beaches here are breathtaking and awaiting sun-seekers and water-sport enthusiasts.

Manzanillo

Located in the state of Colima, Manzanillo sits on two bays and is regarded as the ‘Sailfish Capital of the World.’  For this reason, Manzanillo is a superb place for sport fishing.  Historically the port was associated with piracy and many scuba divers come to explore wrecks off its coast.

Ixtapa

This resort town is located in the state of Guerrero.  Once a mangrove estuary, Ixtapa was planned as a resort city by the Mexican government and continues to attract visitors from near and far.  It boasts a myriad of luxury hotels that boast attractions of their own.

San Blas

If you like to surf, this is a must-visit destination in the Mexican Riviera.  This Nayarit coastal town is characterized by good surfing as well as migratory bird populations and scenic estuaries.  Eco-tourists love the natural beauty of San Blas.

Puerto Escondido

Located in the state of Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido is popular among surfers and vacationers looking for an authentic Mexican experience with less glitz and more natural scenery. Its old town and exceptional deep-sea fishing make it a popular destination.

Mazatlan

Located in the state of Sinaloa, Mazatlan boasts a splendid Malecon or beach walk that is characterized by cliffs, beach-combers, hotels, vendors, cafes, taverns, and shops.  Cliff diving is popular here as is relaxing on the beach and enjoying the city’s warm hospitality.
